Lowry continues impressive form to stay in the mix after solid start in Dubai

The Offaly native is four shots off the lead at the Dubai Desert Classic while Paul Dunne is following closely behind.

SHANE LOWRY IS just four shots off the lead after an encouraging first round at the Dubai Desert Classic.

After winning the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship last weekend, Lowry continued his impressive form by carding a three-under 69 to keep him in touch with the leading pack.

The Offaly native hit five birdies in all along with two consecutive bogeys on the fifth and sixth hole.

Ireland’s Paul Dunne, who was among the late starters, finished one shot behind Lowry.

He carded a two-under 70 after a mixed opening round which included six birdies and four bogeys across the front and back nine.

England’s Matthew Fitzpatrick is currently at the top of the leaderboard after finishing his first round on a stunning seven-under 65, while Sergio Garcia and Bryson Dechambeau are among the eight golfers who are just on just one shot further back in a tie for second place.
